Residence Application Guide

Please refer to this step-by-step guide as an informative resource to help you navigate your Residence application.

Students applying to the Daniel J. Patterson Residence: please note which suite style you would like to apply for. To review suite style descriptions please click here.

Residence Fees are a commitment, even if you cancel and/or withdraw from Residence.

Review and understand the rates and deadlines for your chosen Residence:

Cancellation, withdrawal, and/or academic dismissal are subject to fees being assessed to the student. Please review our Cancellation Policy.

Please Note: The Niagara College Residences do not accept promissory notes from students who are planning to use the proceeds of their OSAP loan to pay their Residence fees.

All terms and conditions pertaining to your accommodation are found in the Student Resident Agreement (SRA). Review a copy of the SRA under our Resources page. The current SRA will become available to students in their Housing Portal once they have been accepted to Residence.

Don’t want to break the rules in Residence? Review a copy of the Residence Community Living Standards (RCLS) under our Resources page. The current RCLS will become available to students in their Housing Portal once they have been accepted to Residence.

Pay the $100 non-refundable Application Fee (applies to all applications).

For Domestic Academic Year Applicants: It is encouraged to submit your application between February 1st and April 15th, to be considered for the acceptance lottery. Applications accepted after April 15th will be placed on a waitlist. Acceptances from the waitlist are first come, first served, and subject to availability. first served, and subject to availability.

Eligibility: You are not required to be admitted to an academic program to apply for Residence. However, if offered Residence, you must be a registered student at the time of Residence Move-In.

For International Academic Year Applicants: International students, who apply between February 1st and  July 1st must have their student visa and travel documents confirmed. The Residence confirms each International Student applicant’s status with Niagara College to ensure all paperwork is complete prior to completing the International acceptance.

Where the number of applications exceeds the number of beds available, applications will be waitlisted, first come, first served based on their application fee received date. International students who do not meet the criteria will remain on the waitlist until all documents can be confirmed.

Acceptance and notification into the Niagara College Residence for the Academic Year will take place on July 2nd or the next business day.

For Summer Applicants: It is encouraged to apply for Residence as close to the application date (February 1st) as possible. All applicants are placed on a waitlist. Acceptances from the waitlist are first come, first served, and subject to availability.

For Winter Applicants: It is encouraged to apply for Residence as close to the application date (September 15th) as possible. All applicants are placed on a waitlist. Acceptances from the waitlist are first come, first served and subject to availability.

*Please note that Winter availability is extremely limited as availability is based on withdrawals from existing residents in the Academic Year.

For Academic Year Applicants: The first round of acceptance offers will be sent on or before April 20th each year. Review your acceptance email carefully for important dates, deadlines, and additional instructions.

Log into your Housing Portal to complete your acceptance paperwork.

Once you have completed your paperwork, the system will prompt the Residence to create a personalized invoice with the payment option you select.

Please expect 1 – 2 business days for your invoice to be sent to you.

Once your acceptance paperwork has been completed and you have received your personal invoice you are now ready to make payment.

The Niagara College Residences do not accept promissory notes from students who are planning to use the proceeds of their OSAP loan to pay their Application Fee and/or Residence Fees. You must make the necessary arrangements to submit your Application Fee in order for your application to be considered for acceptance.

Payment can be made by setting up Niagara College Welland Residence as a Bill Payee on your online banking account using account number or by mailing a Money Order, Bank Draft, or Certified Cheque. Your Niagara College tuition account is separate from your residence fees account. Do not instruct your banking institution to pay Niagara College.

Setting Up the Residence as a Bill Payee

Can be set up through your telephone/internet banking or in person at your local bank branch.

Please note: Bill Payee  payments take 3 – 5 business days to process and received.

Account Number: Your 6 or 7-digit account number is found on the home screen of your housing portal.

Please Note: If you have a 7-digit residence account, please drop the “1” and use the remaining 6 digits as your account number.

Sending a Certified Cheque, Money Order, or Bank Draft

Obtained from your local bank branch. Do not send personal cheques unless they are certified.

International Account Holders Only: When you have reached a payment stage in the application process, you can request a wire transfer form from the residence you are applying too. You can find our contact information here.

For Academic Year Applicants: In late July or early August, the roommate portal will open which allows you to view and communicate with potential roommate matches.

Please note that your Residence account must be in good standing to be included in the roommate selection portal.

Once you have selected one ideal roommate match and they have selected you back, you will be assigned to a suite together.

If you choose to opt-out of the roommate portal, or cannot find a match, the residence will match you with a roommate according to your profile answers.

 

For Summer Applicants: The residence will perform the roommate process of matching based on answers to your profile questions you completed during your application process. As space is limited, roommate matching is completed based on the availability of a residence spot only.

 

For Winter Applicants: The residence will perform the roommate process of matching based on answers to your profile questions you completed during your application process. As space is limited, roommate matching is completed based on the availability of a residence spot only.

All applicants are encouraged to review their email inbox and junk mail folders frequently for communication from the Residence. The email the residence uses to communicate information is the preferred email indicated by the applicant in the application process.

You can check your application or account status by logging into your Housing Portal.

Here is a list of the following application statuses and their descriptions:

 

Not Complete: You have created an application but have not paid the required application fee or deposit.

You have not signed your Student Residence Agreement (SRA) with the residence and are not guaranteed a residence placement.

 

002. Applicant Paid: You have created an application and have paid the required $100 Application Fee.

You have not signed your Student Residence Agreement (SRA) with the residence and are not guaranteed a residence placement.

 

003. Accepted: You have been accepted to the residence and must proceed with the acceptance paperwork.

You have 48 Hours to confirm your acceptance by completing your acceptance paperwork or your offer of acceptance may be revoked.

 

004. Acceptance Complete: You have completed your acceptance paperwork and are awaiting an invoice from the residence. Please allow 1 – 2 business days for an invoice.

 

005. Invoice: You have been provided an invoice for residence fees.

It is important to note that not all payment methods are instant. The residence recommends making payments to the invoice as soon as possible to avoid any issues with your application.

 

006. Payment Received: The residence has received your payment to the residence.

007. Roommate Select: You have been placed in the roommate selection pool.

 

008. Roommate Confirmed: You have confirmed your roommate.

 

009. Application Completed: Your application has no outstanding items.
